There were many influential people in my life while I was learning to play the piano. One of those people passed away yesterday, Rosie Trabeaux. She was the wife of the church pastor at that time and played the piano often. I would sit in awe at her ability to play the old gospel songs from what we called the little red book (shape-notes and all!). As I was learning to play the piano there was a song that I loved, but struggled to play – Holy Spirit, Thou Art Welcome – by Dottie Rambo.
Every time we were at the piano I would ask her to play it and watch each hand motion, each finger – trying to get it! Many years later, I still play this song and every time I play it I think of Rosie Trabeaux.
