March 2016 Song of the Month

March 2016 Song of the Month

Title: “This is my Season”
Author: Bishop William Murphy III
…This is my season for grace for favor,
This is my season to reap what I have sown…
On Saturday, February 20 I attended “Get Yah Praise On” at the Audubon Zoo and what a great event! An afternoon of concerts from some amazing African American gospel singers/groups. It was a beautiful day sitting under the trees relaxing listening to this great music. I have heard this song before by Bishop Murphy and really enjoy it, but this time I felt something different. Maybe its because we are in the season of Lent. During this season of Lent Pastor Allie has been encouraging us to look deep down inside, to take notice of our lives, to journey. Lent is a season of renewal, a season to reflect, a season to grow in our lives.
As we journey through the season of Lent there may be things in our lives that we need to let go, to grow from, to become; and this song has inspired me to do just that. As I journey through this season of Lent I am trying to take time to reflect. In the song it says “See… I haven’t been perfect, but I sure been faithful, See… God’s got a purpose yes and I know God’s able..” Maybe we haven’t always been faithful, but the season of Lent is a time to reflect, knowing that God does indeed have a purpose, and this is our season! A season to refresh, to grow, a season for grace!

Take some time this season to reflect on your own life, think about the things you maybe haven’t done so well, but also take the time to celebrate your accomplishments. This is the season of Lent, a season for grace and favor, a season to reap what you have sown.
