Brooke Frasier of Hillsong United wrote and recorded the original version of this song.  She expressed that the words just came to her through the Holy Spirit.  As she was trying to write the chorus a verse came to her from Matthew 21:9:

The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna…” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

This verse also inspired the second verse where it speaks of generations.  It came to her that the shout of Hosanna has been used by generations before us and will be used by generations behind us. Using this scripture which noted the triumphant arrival of Jesus could also note the those who have come before us and those to come all shouting Hosanna! Hosanna in the highest!

One author writing about this song states: One song that speaks to me is “Hosanna” by Hillsong United. It really helps me imagine God’s glory and power. Not only is God physically powerful to move the wind and waves, But more powerful in moving people emotionally and spiritually. This song brings this to life.

What a beautiful statement! God speaks through us in many ways. Wind, waves, or just that still small voice. Let’s always be attentive to ways God speaks to us. In Allie’s article she talked about “God Winks” and I for one know that God still speaks to us.  Let’s keep our ears, eyes and thoughts always ready for God to speak to us.
