… O star of wonder, star of night, Star with royal beauty bright, Westward leading, still proceeding, Guide us to thy perfect Light…
In Matthew Chapter 2 Verse 1, it states that “..during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem…” Some versions of the scripture use three wise men, or three kings. Was it just three? Was it just men? We are not sure, but what we do know is that they brought gifts of significance to the Baby Jesus. We sometimes see pictures of three men riding camels coming to see Jesus in the manger, however that is not important.
What’s important to focus on is the star that shown in the east leading them to the place where Jesus was born and the willingness of the Magi to follow it. The lyrics paint a picture of this royal star that guides them to the perfect Light, which is Jesus. As for the gifts they brought? Gold was symbolic of His Kingly reign, frankincense, symbolic of His ministry and myrrh, symbolic of our redemption through His death.
As we enter 2016, let’s keep on searching for that royal star with beauty bright that leads us closer to Christ. As for what gift we should bring? What better gift then ourselves; our love, our body, our mind, our soul and our heart.
