September 2015 Song of the Month

“Everlasting God”
Words and music by Brenton Brown and Ken Riley
 (c) 2005 Thankyou Music
Brenton Brown, the author of the song, woke up one morning feeling like he was developing the flu. That weekend he led worship and for months after that still felt ill. The doctors diagnosed him with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Feeling the strain, and with guidance from the doctor, the author returned home with his wife to South Africa with his parents to get some rest. During the suffering it appeared their dreams and ambitions were going to be unfinished. During a time of prayer and seeking the Lord they re-discovered Isaiah 40, and in the chapter the Lord is speaking to Israel.
Isaiah 40:28-31
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. God will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. God gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
The author realized that God knows where we are in our struggles, health issues, hurt, and much more. God knows all and is with us right where we are on our journeys. Times of sickness, stress, and hurt are not easy, but it’s in these times we should remember that God is the Everlasting God and is with us. Isaiah 40 closes with those whose hope is in the Lord will be renewed, and will soar on wings like eagles. What a beautiful picture!
