So, my pastor and I decided to attend St. Charles Avenue Baptist Church. Not sure how many people know any history about me, be Baptist Churches and I really don’t get along… Enough of that.
The pianist/organist is a good friend of mine, but have never heard him play, so we decided to attend. We were greeted at the door by my friend and immediately introduced to the interim pastor there. Lo and behold this isn’t a “baptist” church after all. We were greeted with inclusion and during the announcement time were introduced as interim pastor and music director of the MCc of New Orleans. What an honor to be introduced in other churches!!
If you read my last publication concerning an episcopal church I used the term roaring organ. Well my friend had the organ of St. Charles Ave rumbling our chairs. Each verse of every song used a different set of ranks to give to dynamic I had never heard in church music before. The pew under was vibrating and the congregation was singing with such great sound. During the summer there is no choir due to a lot of people traveling however once fall begins I will attend again to hear the sound. I was blown away by the talent of my friend. We hearing the sound of a piano in church many people sing along, however not all. But when the ranks of a pipe organ are roaring with wind and sound you can’t help but sing.
